Washing your hair extensions - The do's and dont's

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

Avoid washing your extensions for 24 - 48hrs after your fitting to let them adhere properly. Always use sulphate and silicone free shampoo, the reason for this is that your scalp produces natural oils that nourish your natural hair, sulfates remove those natural oils...but because the follicles aren't attached directly to your scalp, the extensions will not receive these oils so will dry out the extensions and strip them of their colour. Massage the shampoo into your hair without rubbing and rinse, do not turn your head upside down to do this. After, apply a conditioner from the mid-length to the tip, do not apply to the roots as this can cause the extensions to slip or aid in dissolving tape glue. Rinse your hair thoroughly to avoid any build up or itching. Shampoo and Conditioner with Argan Oil is great to help your extensions stay soft and last longer. Dry your hair by patting it with a towel do not rub your extensions. Apply some Argan oil and heat protector (if you will be applying heat) and preferably leave the extensions to dry on their own. Brush your hair extensions starting at the tips and working your way up, hold on to the mid length of your hair to prevent pulling on the extensions.
